Vine roads to mountain Kalnik

This is a story about rich mithology of north Croatia, its picturesqe vine roads and magic forrest paths of mountain Kalnik. When the cold wind strikes on the walls of old ruins of forth Kalnik or when poisonous snakes sunbath on the walls people say it is evil Black queen Barbara calling cause she has no peace even in her death. 

 

Legend says that king Bela IV was hiding inside forth Kalnik from the Mongolians which have surronded it. Brave local vilaggers threw the plums in the middle of nights so he and his man can survive the siege, and Mongolians left furder. 

 

• Greeting in the morning hours with freshly baked homemade bread and hot healing tea. Departure from Zagreb with brightly sounds of music in our moving van. Visit to the wine cellar Kašnar at Kašina (Glavica Gornja), which passes throughout gentle countryside and fulfill your eyes and heart with full beauty and grace. Fresh drop’s of wine will help us for an easier transition into the world of elf’s. Wealthy it is, the local wine range and the glass will be here to pour some Kraljevina, Graševina, Chardonnay, Riesling, Green Sylvaner and excellent, localy famous Portugizac. Here is also a home of great grappa’s: Viljemovka, Šljivovica and Marelica...

• Continuation to mountain. Lunch at mauntain lodge who is facing the old forth Kalnik. It is associated with the legend of the Black Queen and Kalnik plum people. Enjoying in the local goulash,salad and roasted štrukla (pie) by a fireplace.The fabulous guide will lead you through the stories of domestic house spirits: Bagun, Pećni Ban, Runješ, Hižna Kača, Bajkači, Mora, Veda and Destiny Fairyies.

• A quiet walk along forest path to the viewpoint with stories of Forest Fairyies that can be found by hidden springs. They are guardians of forest and the land besides river Drava which can be seen from Kalnik. Passing between the trees, we should be careful that we do not find Baba Jaga and Huta Vila (bad fairyies)

• Back to Zagreb with stories about dwarfs and other mystical creatures.
